Yankee Thoughts

By Gooch | July 1, 2007

Sitting here watching the Yankee game (currently losing 9-5 to Oakland) and I just think of this whole season.  As big of a Yankees fan as I am, this season has been very roller coasterish. We got so low – 14.5 behind the Red Sox in the division – and then had the nice 10 game winning streak and won 11 out of 12 games.  Then we go to Colorado and it seems like everything just went down from there.  Now I’m a realist.  I know that to some extent the division is out of our reach, but I don’t want the Wild Card to be out either.  I really do think that the Yankees are better than they’ve been playing.  I think it’s just a case of when things will come together and can be sustained.  All I can do is remember last season when we started somewhat bad and ended up taking the division by 11 games.  To do that this season would be a monumental achievement, but it has to start somewhere.  As much as I’d like the Red Sox to fall flat on their faces, they do have a very nice pitching staff.  Our pitching staff should be much better than how it’s playing but that’s due to the offense at times.  Hey for all I know this could be the odd season out where we don’t make the playoffs and we come back next season with a much better performance.

All I know is that I will be watching and rooting my team as I always have.
