10950 Days (with a few leap days thrown in)
By Gooch | January 9, 2009
30 years ago today, at 11:27 AM (which should be the time this is published), a baby boy was born in New York City. Now I could go point by point into each little thing that has happened in my life, but that would be long and boring, so I’ll do it this way . . .
The past 30 years have been a ride of ups and downs, not only growing up physically but growing up within myself. There are things that I did at the age of 15 that make me cringe now. I have learned a lot about myself: my likes and dislikes, my merits and faults, and ultimately the direction I want my life to go. I won’t say it hasn’t been a hard road. The 2 bouts of meningitis, especially the first one, have shaped my life in ways that I will probably never know, but who knows how life would have turned out without them. Do I wish they never happened? Of course, but such is the hand that was dealt.
There’s something to say for the people who happen into your life throughout the years. I may not have always been the nicest of people and probably some people down right hate me, but I have always tried to be as good of a friend, acquaintance, classmate, or co-worker as I could be. Everyone that I have associated with, whether in person or online, has had some effect on my life. It is always said that you are the company you keep (ok it’s something like that). Well if that’s true then I’m wealthy beyond belief. Thank you to all who have been a part of my life, no matter how small or large a part it is. I look forward to continued relationships.
Now I look forward to the next chapter in the story. How will things look in 5, 10, even another 30 years from now? I don’t know, but it’s going to be an interesting journey. The first 30 years is all about growing up physically, mentally and emotionally. You don’t do so much of the physical growing now but there’s always learning new things and that is what I intend to do. I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I will continue to hone myself.
I guess that’s enough rambling for me, but I leave you with some pictures of me growing up. There’s more here: http://photos.williamabrahamjr.net/v/growingup/
