Sad Weekend

By Gooch | December 21, 2009

This past Saturday morning I learned that my great grandmother passed away peacefully. She was 94. My mom called me while I was out shopping early to get in before the snow and told me. I am sad at the loss of her but not overly grief stricken. She had a long life, even if the last few were spent at a nursing home. She was the only one who called me Bill Junior (and the only one allowed to call me that). She was a deeply religious woman who was always asking me when was I going back to church. I did not see her too much once she was moved down to North Carolina, usually when I was down at my grandmother’s to visit, and was always happy to see me when I did. The last time I saw her was on the way back from my uncle’s wedding in Georgia, we stopped off in NC for a day and the first stop before we even got to grandma’s was the nursing home. I haven’t been back there since, but I will be there for her going home service on Wednesday. She leaves behind a large family: 3 daughters, 17 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. She will be missed by all those who she touched.
